A Laurelwood Cabana Club Tribute to Chris Meadows

Dear Members and Friends,

On May 24th, 2009, Christopher Meadows, a former lifeguard of The Laurelwood Cabana Club died tragically while volunteering for the San Luis Obispo Search and Rescue Team. Chris was an integral part of our community in many ways and, true to his character, he was critical in establishing the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) that is in place at our cabana club today.

Since his loss, we have wanted to pay a special tribute to a young man who dedicated his life to serve and protect his community. The LCC Board of Directors is recommending the purchase of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) to be dedicated in Chris' memory since we feel it best highlights Chris' amazing character, dedication and love of "gadgets." For the past several years, our Lifeguards have been trained to use the AED in addition to their CPR, First Aid, and lifeguard training. This AED will enable our guards to assess, monitor, and treat individuals having a life threatening cardiac "event" even before paramedics arrive at the pool. AED machines are not state law mandated yet but, with your support, we would like to acknowledge the leadership role that Chris forged to ensure community safety. We hope to purchase the defibrillator during the off-season and have it installed along with a plaque honoring Chris ready to begin our 2010 season.
